Homer Glen is a small village located approximately 30 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. Covering an area of 22.36 square miles with a population of roughly 24,000, it’s one of only a handful of communities around the Windy City that provides a small-town feel.

Below, we’re going to discuss why Homer Glen is popular among retired seniors, as well as various details to help you make the most of your time here.

Homer Glen History

Many people are surprised to learn that the Village of Homer Glen was incorporated on April 17, 2001. This is in stark contrast to many other cities and townships throughout the Chicago area that have been in existence for 100+ years.

In the very early days of Homer Glen, it was most well known as an upscale neighborhood within commuting distance of Chicago. However, as the years passed, it soon became popular for its commercial development plan, which brought quite a few jobs (and more residents) to the area.
